Following the previous article on how to enable the Web Browsing feature, today, let’s proceed to enable and install Plugins functionality. This will make our ChatGPT even more versatile for various application scenarios.


Who currently has the ability to enable Plugin functionality?

According to the official OpenAI article, the Plugin functionality is currently only available for ChatGPT Plus users.


How to enable the Plugins functionality?

1.First, we need to access the ChatGPT chat interface at https://chat.openai.com/. Then, click on the “Profile” icon in the bottom-left corner. After the menu pops up, click on “Settings.”

2.In the popup window, click on the left side where it says “Beta features,” and on the right side, toggle the switch to enable the “Plugins” functionality.

3.Back in the ChatGPT chat interface, you will notice a dropdown menu prompt next to “GPT-4” on the right side. Click on it and, in the dropdown menu, check the option “Plugins Beta.”

How to install plugins?

1.After checking the “Plugins Beta” in the previous section, you will see “No plugins enabled” below the GPT version selection tab. Click on it to open the dropdown menu. Now, you will see the words “Plugin store.” Click on the right arrow (→) to proceed.

2.At this point, a pop-up box will appear primarily introducing what Plugins are. Among the information provided, an essential point is mentioned in the first line: “Plugins are made by other third-party application providers, not by OpenAI, so please make sure you trust them before using.” Here, click on the bottom-right corner’s “OK” button.

3.Next, you will see the content of the Plugin store. There are three tabs: Popular, New, and All. You can browse these Plugins according to your preferences.

4.As a demonstration of installing a Plugin, this time I chose to install the “Show Me” plugin. Select the “All” tab, find the “Show Me” plugin, and click on “Install.”

5.When you see “Install” change to “Uninstall,” it means the installation is completed.

6.Let’s close this popup box. Now, go back to the GPT version tab, and you will notice that instead of “No plugins enabled,” you can see the logo of the “Show Me” plugin. Click on it, and you will confirm that it has been successfully installed.
